Bio
Tjeerd A. Schiphof (1957) studied law at the University of Amsterdam, and defended there his PhD in 1994. He has specialized in the legal aspects of media, art and culture. He was legal researcher at the Institute for Information Law (IVIR, part of the University of Amsterdam) He worked furthermore as assistant professor and legal researcher at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Leiden University. He was attorney at law in Amsterdam, as well as legal consultant at the Tropical Institute (KIT), also in Amsterdam. At the moment he is assistant professor of information science at the University of Amsterdam. Occasionally he acts as legal consultant for cultural heritage organizations, especially on the subjects of copyright and privacy (personal data protection). He is co-editor of the Handbook for Cultural Policy (Handboek Cultuurbeleid), co-founder and board member of the Association for Art, Culture and Law (VKCR), and member of the privacy committee of the European Holocaust Research Institute (EHRI).
