Bio
Peter van den Doel is active in Photography since 1982 and has worked for different agencies representing (international) journalistic and documentary photographers. The Dutch photomarket is a leading market in the world for foreign photographers. All renown photographers are represented in The Netherlands. As such large archives has been accumulated over the years and resulted in the Spaarnestad Photo Archive. A foundation holding an archive of 12 million photoghaphs. Since 2006 Peter van den Doel is the managing director of the foundation. In 2008 a cooperation was formed with the Dutch National Archives (Nationaal Archief) resulting in the handover from the archives to the Nationaal Archief in 2011. Spaarnestad Photo is still responsible for the commercial sales of the collection. From these sales the Nationaal Archief is collecting a percentage in order to fund the preservation of the collection. Passionate about arts and publishing, he is also head of the board of 37PK, a foundation for support of arts and artist in het city of Haarlem, and member of the board of ZAM Africa Magazine an independent magazine about Arts, Culture and Politics in Africa. He is an advisor for Nationaal Archief for the digitization project “Image of the Future”. Also he is a projectmanager Digital Imagebank at NBC Naturalis in Leiden as part of the large-scale digitization project for Natualis.
