Joyce Ray, currently a visiting professor in the department of information studies at University College London, was Associate Deputy Director for Library Services at the US Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) from 1997 until September 2011. At IMLS she directed grant programs that distributed more than $40 million annually to libraries, archives, institutions of higher education, and related organizations. Before joining IMLS, she was head of special collections at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio; program director for technological evaluation at the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, the funding arm of the US National Archives and Records Administration; and Special Assistant to the Archivist of the United States. She has a master’s degree in library science and a Ph.D. in history, both from The University of Texas at Austin.
